The Big Three

Vincent is now three years old.
This is my favorite baby picture of him. He's just a few weeks old here. I found this vest, shirt, tie outfit on sale just after he was born and he wore it for his Aunt Torrie's wedding. The shoes were way too big and he wore them for months. =) He's our little man. The girls used to call him their little buddy, which Andy liked and hoped they would call him that until he was taller than them, but it faded out soon after he was walking. He's now speaking in full sentences most of the time and not squealing or screaming at us as much. It's a little surprising to hear his sentences most of the time and I think it's obvious that he's around bossy women a lot of the time if you listen to how he talks...I can blame that on Elizabeth and Olivia, right?
Vincent still likes dinosaurs, any animals, cars, trains, and books.
He likes to run, jump, fake fall onto the couch, climb on the table, and get himself into his bed.
Vincent has no "indoor" voice. He is always just loud.
He took a few weeks break from naps when we moved him to the twin size bed, but now goes to sleep pretty well at naptime and it's made our evenings much more pleasant without him being so overtired.
He eats a little better now, but mostly just wants milk and apple juice still. He's slowly starting to eat more of what we eat for dinner and is actually getting some of it into his tummy instead of just throwing it on the ground. He eats best when we encourage him by telling him if he eats it, he'll get big and strong. He wants to be big and strong.
When asked about turning three, he has been saying that he doesn't want to be three and that he's two. I think being reminded that birthdays come with presents has changed his mind.We will be working on potty-training him next month (when things quiet down a tiny bit with Abigail). I hope he will be a little more eager than he is now in a month. He doesn't seem to care about diapers.
Vincent wants to do things by himself. Climb into the car, get out of his carseat after we unbuckle him, take his socks off when we're changing him, and gets into the girls' things while they are at school.
Vincent is a fun little boy to have in our house and likes to play with others. He's still working on sharing nicely.
We celebrated Vincent's birthday Sunday night with one of his cousins. Monday we'll have some pie (thanks mom!) for our Family Home Evening and let him open his presents from us.

resting

We are trying to rest. I'm not very good at resting, so this is kind of a challenge. Nice ladies from church have brought us a few yummy meals and Andy and the girls cleaned up the house today. My mom came over Friday to help with the kids and to take Abigail and I back to the hospital so they could weigh her again to make sure she's growing. My milk came in, so now she's eating a lot and was up most of Friday night gorging herself. She went to sleep right about when Vincent wanted to wake up. Wonderful. Friday I was able to nap pretty well during the day with my mom here though, so I survived the night. I even took a nap right before dinner, which turned out to be a very wise decision. Hopefully Abigail will sleep better Saturday night because we are going to church in the morning. Yes, I know I'm a little crazy. I don't like missing church and I like to show off my baby and I hold her most of the time. I'm on my major medicine and she has all kinds of immunities, so now is the perfect time.
Abigail in her bed at home. She needed to wake up to eat.See how much hair Abigail has?!Elizabeth likes to hold Abigail. She's so tiny!
I was playing with my camera settings. This one is pretty good, but compare it to the next one.
See? Why have I not found this great camera setting before? I've had this camera for years...
Proof that we are hanging out resting....but not so much that I don't shower. Showers are essential. =)
Just another shot in her crib with the tutu.
Vincent will be three years old on Monday and next Sunday is Elizabeth's birthday and baptism. Elizabeth has a whole list of things she wants to do for her birthday party with friends (which won't be until the following week). I wonder where she came up with making lists...She just needs to make her invitations (she started them today), her cake, and the pinata. She came up with some games, party favors, and even turn order for who gets to hit the pinata first. We are skipping doing a family party at our house this year for Vincent and Elizabeth, but we are having cake at Andy's parent's house for Vincent and one of his cousins tomorrow.

Abigail Mary

(Picture taken at the hospital by the nurses. Elizabeth made that tutu with a little help from Grandma Shirley.)
Abigail Mary Ransom was born Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 at 10:02 am and weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and measured 18 1/2 inches long. She has a full head of dark thick hair and is beautiful. =)We were scheduled to go in at 5:30 because the c-section was planned for 7:30, but they moved us to 10:30 and didn't call and let us know, so they put us in the room I'd recover in and let us rest there and prepped me early.
Here she is in the operating room just after she was born. She was tucked into me all breech too and that surprised the doctor. Her head was up between my ribs which explains why it was always so hard right there during Braxton Hicks contractions.Andy holding Abigail while they finish fixing NaDell up.
Paul and Mary took the three big siblings Sunday and Monday nights and brought them to the hospital on Tuesday to meet their sister. Abigail gave each of them a little present of stickers. Andy's mom took the kids for the next two nights. Thursday I'm home with Abigail and the kids will be back too.
Our four kids. Wow. That sounds funny. My mom curled the girls' hair while they waited to come see us. They also stopped and picked up three roses for each of them to give a rose to me and Abigail like my older brothers and I did when we came to Kadlec to meet my baby brother (fourth child). Yes, I was born at Kadlec too. =)We are really spoiled with so much family and friends who love us. I got a big surprise when I got home that all the leaves were out of the flower beds. Someone bought new flower pots and a wreath and a doormat and a candle and left them on the front porch anonymously. VERY NICE! Many thanks to whoever did that. It looks so much nicer.
Here are some pictures and what they are.
Abigail hanging out with me the first night of her life. She wanted me to hold her and would cry when I put her back in her little bassinet, so I had to hold her on my chest and tuck her into my blanket with my arms around her so I wouldn't drop her. We didn't get much sleep that night.
Abigail is very alert and likes to look around at everything.
I'm holding her while she sucks her little thumb. The doctor said her eyes are all scratched from her putting her little hands on them while she was inside still.
Cute little tiny feet.
All ready to go home. What an adventure this will be.
The drawing Elizabeth made on the wall of "Abby". It's just her head.Time to rest now.

What A Day!

What a day! I really should just go take a short rest instead of blogging, but I don' t know that it's worth it for 40 minutes before it's time to pick Elizabeth up from school and take her to dance and then drop off the junk I sorted out yesterday at my favorite thrift store...not to mention Vincent not napping right now.
WARNING THIS STORY IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT, FOR THE NAUSEOUS!
So today I went visiting teaching to two ladies and at the second house Vincent smelled poopy, so I changed him, but he wasn't poopy. It was a really bad smell though. I figured he had just tooted or something and sent him to play with the other kids. Towards the end of the visit I was touching the hem of my shirt (that I can't really see because of this big ole' belly) and lifted it up and there was poop. YUCK! Really YUCK! Vincent then came over and had poop on the back of his pants, but it was obvious that it wasn't from his diaper, so when I started looking, I found dog poop on his shoes, pants, shirt, etc. YUCK! It made me want to throw up. I hate that smell! (Not that anyone likes it!) I guess he must have put his shoe on my shirt when I was changing his diaper that didn't need to be changed. He had been playing so he would have been kneeling on his shoes to get it on the seat of his pants. So, I had to clean him up, the couch, and put everything in a plastic bag and carry him to the car. I looked around the room he was playing in and didn't find anything, but ewww. He was pantless in the car and I gave him a jean blanket to keep warm. Luckily, my visiting teaching companion has a daughter who gets out of school at the same time as Olivia, so she left to pick both of them up and met me at my house. I tossed all the clothes in the sink with water, tried not to throw up, started the bath for Vincent, and put the smelly boots in the sink in the bathroom. Yuck. What a disgusting job to have to do. Worst smell ever! Meanwhile, Olivia wanted to eat lunch. So did I. And my own visiting teachers were coming in a half hour. I was able to get Vincent redressed, feed the kids, and eat a little bit of my lunch before they came and now it's nearly time to pick Elizabeth up. Like I said, what a day!
YOU MAY NOW RESUME READING NAUSEOUS PEOPLE!
Wednesday I was working on laundry and decided to sort through the kid toys. This is a huge undertaking with three kids and all their stuff. It's so hard to get rid of things! I needed to move Andy's Lego boxes back where they go before starting (they are just toolboxes and they aren't heavy, and yes, my husband likes Legos. He collects the Star Wars ships and puts them together over and over again.) I did that and then started sorting through the toys putting all the fast food toys and toys missing pieces and toys that never worked right or the annoying toys away in a box. I started this right after dropping the girls off at school at 8:40am. I was still going at 10:30 and hadn't showered yet, so I called a friend to pick Olivia up and kept on going. Olivia helped me a little. Vincent did not. I finally finished that task at about 2pm and had filled up a few diaper boxes with stuff to get rid of.
I sorted out the cars and the dinosaurs and put them in baskets and lined up all the cars on the shelf with the Little People houses. This is the toys organized. I know to most of you, this looks like a ton of toys. It kind of is. The shelf at the back wall has our games, Wii and Gamecube games, Andy's railroad magazines, and then has some kid toys on the bottom. That's where the Barbies, dollies, blocks, and trains are. The DVD shelf in the foreground is where the kid movies, small PetShop and Pony houses, and coloring books are. The things that are special to Elizabeth and Olivia are in the boxes at the end of the counter with the polly pockets in the middle because they have tiny pieces. The Pet Shops are in the laundry room and so are all of the Little People. Remember that we don't have toys in the kid's bedroom. We do have some bags hanging from hooks to the right of the bookcase in the back of the picture that have sets of things like ponies, bigger pet shops, and baby stuff. I finally ate some lunch (and fed the kids) and then made banana muffins with chocolate chips on top. I was still in pajamas. It was then time to get Elizabeth (and switch the laundry), so I did that and came home to make our dinner and get the girls to clean their room. Meanwhile, Vincent threw banana muffins (not all of them) on the floor of the kitchen and played with the toys I had just sorted out nicely in the family room. The girls picked some clothes to get rid of that were worn out, out of date, or just didn't look nice before I went out to see what Vincent was up to. I don't know if he'll make it to his birthday on the 31st! Crazy wild child. I really wanted a nap at this point, but there was no way I would get one. Andy came home, we ate dinner, put Vincent to bed, and played games with our buddies. At least we were able to play games. That's always fun....even though this time I lost pretty bad in both games. I even managed to get to bed before 2am or 3am, which is the time I've been going to bed lately trying to finish the scrapbooking stuff before Abigail gets here. I finished that on Tuesday night so I'm now done with our scrapbook up to January 2010! WooooWhooo!!!
Tuesday night was also great because I was able to go to dinner with some great lady relatives. Andy's sister wanted to do a little baby shower (even though we don't need anything and I made her tell them that in the invite) and it was great to get together with the girls before Abigail is born (NEXT TUESDAY, the 25th!) My mom and two sister-in-laws came as well as Andy's mom, two of Andy's sisters, Andy's grandma, and three of Andy's aunts, and one of my very bestest friends. Even though I told them all that I don't need anything because we have so much girl stuff, they all brought fabulous presents anyway that I will use. My mom made a cool pink and white quilt and gave me the pretzel M&M's. Andy's mom made a baby carrier and Abigail's name sign. It's the pink polka dot with green on the left. One of Andy's aunts made the quilt on the right side of the crib. There are also two bluish things from two friends who gave Abigail things a month or so ago.Andy's sister, Sara, gave me a photo box with Abigail's name filled with great stuff. And one of my sister-in-laws made me a fun car seat cover with green daisies that are on the handles. She said that her seven year old told her that "Aunt NaDell will want to have lots more babies because she'll like that so much." Adorable. The saying. It's probably not true that I will have "lots" more babies. We'll see. Several of the ladies gave Abigail cute outfits and blankets and quilts and one aunt brought a big box of size 2 diapers. It was just great to get out and visit. I miss Enrichment nights for Relief Society when they happened every month. It's hard to be social on your own. We do our best. And now Vincent has decided to take his nap and stop playing in his bed. Nice. 10 minutes until we absolutely have to go to get Elizabeth and take her to dance. Nice.

An Organized Gift Tip

I'm linking this post up to We're Organized Wednesday with LeeAnne whose blog is Organize and Decorate Everything.
When I had Elizabeth, I was in labor the whole day of my due date/baby shower day, so I rested all day before the shower which was put on by the young women at church and all of their moms were invited too. Anyway, I came home from the baby shower, sorted out all of the (way too many!) gifts and decided to write the name of the person who gave the gift on the tag to help me remember. The list of gifts and who gave it works most of the time, but sometimes, especially if other people just write pink onsie, it just doesn't cover it. Anyway, so I wrote the name of the giver on the gift and then when it was time for Elizabeth to fit into that outfit, I'd remember again who gave it to her and possibly make sure she wore it when we'd see them. It has helped me remember even now nearly eight years later who gave me/Elizabeth which outfit/blanket/etc. Now that I'm due with my fourth child, third girl next week, this is coming in very handy again. It's nice to remember to be grateful for all that people so generously give (even though I keep telling people I have PLENTY of baby things for this little girl). Of course new things are nice and fun, but I'd really much rather have diapers, playdates for the other three kids, or restaurant gift cards if you feel you MUST give me something. =) Seriously though, I don't NEED anything.

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

No pictures. You really don't want to see the bad and the ugly!
The Good:
1. Abigail will be here in one week (Tuesday is the date for the c-section.)
2. I get to eat at Olive Garden tonight with my favorite lady relatives to celebrate Abigail coming.
3. I only have part of December 2009 left to scrapbook and I'm done with that goal.
4. Plans for Elizabeth, Olivia, and Vincent while I'm at the hospital are coming together well.
5. Elizabeth's baptism is approaching and we are talking more about what it means to be baptized and the promises she will make.
6. The weather was beautiful here yesterday (in the 60's) and I was able to open doors, turn off the heat, and let the kids play outside.
7. Abigail's dresser is finished (as of Saturday night when Andy put the handles on). Here is the finished product. I guess I do need to add a picture to this post. Lucky you that it's not "The Ugly" #1. See previous post for step-by-step details.

The Bad:
1. I only have a week left before semi-sleepless nights (but I train myself for that pretty good all the time, so it shouldn't be too tough.)
2. Doctor bills (but the tax refund should cover those and more hopefully.)
3. It's hard to bend down to clean up toys.
4. Vincent is into EVERYTHING! I always thought people were exaggerating when they complained about having to be one step behind their boys. Boys really are harder than girls at this age. I really thought Elizabeth was just as hard as other people's boys. Now I see how wrong I was. She was easy compared to him. At least she slept and was very independent. Argh! Boys. I'm so glad I'm having a girl this time!

The Ugly:
1. I tried to make a new kind of Alfredo sauce with eggs last night and it turned into scrabbled eggs, so I dumped it down the drain to start a new one. Unfortunately, that was not the brightest idea without a garbage disposal. Our sink catcher thing caught a lot of them, but I pulled it out to throw the grossness away and a bunch of the grossness went down and clogged up the drain. SO, Andy had to get out his snake tool to clear out the clog, which then turned into pulling everything out of the under the sink cupboard, using all of our old towels, opening the cabinet under the counter in the family room to get to pipes, and finding wood pieces with the snake, breaking the snake, sawing off the part that was broken, and Andy had to go to the store to get Drano that didn't work (Andy says: Drano never works, because someone in our home has long, lustrous, red, Drano-proof hair. The only reason I even bothered with Drano this time was because I figured it ought to be able to dissolve eggs, or else why do they even sell it. I eventually got up on the roof, snaked the vent, and guess what was on the end of the snake, eggs and hair!). In fact, it's still sitting in the sink full of water since last night. Dang. (The rest of our water and drains work.) Hopefully Andy can get it figured out tonight before his meeting that he mentioned last night that he has to go to for his ward mission leader calling. I am going to Olive Garden, so I had to find a sitter.
UPDATED- 5pm Sink is unclogged. Andy fixed it! I'm so lucky to have a husband who can do hard things! =)
2. My neighbor came over today just before I went to pick Olivia up from school to tell me that she started seeing mice in her house at Thanksgiving and that there are still clues that a mouse is still there. She wondered if we had any sightings. NO! YUCK! And asked that if we trap them to not use radcon poison because of her dogs. Just thinking of mice makes me cringe up. Like we need something else to worry about.

Overall, it's been pretty good. I don't want my blog to make anyone think I don't have bad moments. I have many, but CHOOSE to play the glad game. Life is all about choosing.

$1 Dresser Make Over

Today I was productive. Well, I've been trying to be productive since the year began (and before that too) with my list of things I want to get done before Abigail gets here and I'm a little more tied down (literally-holding, feeding, changing, timing everything...) This morning I put away the laundry I folded last night, worked on the dresser a little, loaded the dishwasher, showered, picked up Olivia, ate lunch, worked on the dresser, and made some cookies after picking up Elizabeth. I took a nap too and vacuumed up all the Cheerios that Vincent mushed into the carpet and had Olivia help me sort out the kid games that Vincent got out of the cupboard and had game night. I didn't have to cook tonight because it was the school pizza night fundraiser and Andy picked some up on the way home. Tuesday night/Wednesday early morning I completed April and May 2009 in my scrapbook. I ran out of space in my fancy scrapbooks now, so I'm just putting the pictures on the size of my scrapbooks and avoiding buying more stuff for now. I'm just putting the finished pages in clear plastic sleeves to protect them until I am able to buy a few more scrapbooks. I just need to scrapbook June 2009-December 2009 now. I like being so close to the deadline I gave myself. If I take seven days to do the scrapbooking, I still have six more that I don't because Abigail will be here in 13 days. I'm getting really excited. Today I packed the big suitcase with the older kids' clothes, diapers, and new toothbrushes just in case we have to hurry them off to someone else.

So, because my parents brought that dresser for me to fix up, I started on it yesterday. I went to the dollar store to see if they had some of that wallpaper border stuff that I've seen there and didn't find it, so I bought three rolls of wedding wrapping paper that is mostly white with flowers, silver, and a pink hue instead. I already had white paint from the previous owner and all the painting stuff, so I didn't have to pay anything for that and I already had spray adhesive and spray sealant which I decided would work better than mod podge or at least be faster. I only needed part of one roll of the wrapping paper for the drawer fronts and decided to keep the rest of the dresser white (after painting four coats of white and sealing it.)
Here is the transition to the pretty dresser.
1. Ugly beat up dresser. Tuesday I took off the handles and sanded off the stickers and then used a putty knife thing to get the rest of the sticker residue off.
2. Dresser painted white with several coats of paint. A painter's tip is to use Glad Press and Seal to cover your paint tray and paint brush between coats so you don't have to clean up as often/until you are done.3. Five drawers painted white.
4. The supplies I used to attach the wrapping paper to the front of the drawer. 3M Spray Adhesive and wrapping paper.
5. I glued the wrapping paper to the front of the drawer and pressed out any bubbles and then cut slits at the corners and spray glued the edges down too.
6. All five drawers wrapped and drying.
7. Two drawers in dresser to see what it will look like.
8. I like it a lot. Pretty great for only spending $1 on it and using supplies I already had. I guess I really spent $3, but now I'll use the wrapping paper for what it is supposed to be used for. After this I used a clear acrylic sealer that is glossy to seal it all up. I sprayed several coats of that and just need to buy some handles for the drawers. I thought about covering the sides and top of the dresser, but I like that better white I've decided. I love it and can't wait to use it! I'm going to give it at least until tomorrow to make sure it's all ready for baby clothes.

If I haven't told you, Elizabeth will be baptized Sunday, February 6th, 2011 at 6pm at the Thayer Building which is also her eighth birthday. And Abigail will be blessed the first week in March.

Babies and beyond

Here is what we've been up to this week and more.
Just a little history and some baby pictures to freak you out a little to think I had Abigail... We didn't have a blog when the girls were born and didn't start our blog until Vincent was a few months old, so here are a few comparison pictures for you.

I am sure I have a picture of me just before Elizabeth was born, but that was before we made the move to digital cameras and I don't feel like finding the picture right now.
Here are baby pictures of Elizabeth, Olivia, and Vincent in the hospital and the pictures of me when I was on my way out the door to have Olivia and Vincent, along with a picture of me today with only 16 days to go until Abigail is scheduled to arrive.
Elizabeth- 9 pounds 2 ounces born the day after the due date.Olivia- 7 pounds 12 ounces born 1 week before the due date.Vincent- 8 pounds 4 ounces born 8 days before the due date.
When I went in to have Olivia I weighed just one pound more than I did when I had Elizabeth.
When I had Vincent I weighed 20 pounds more than when I had the girls. That is what I weigh now too. I'm not exactly sure where the 20 pounds are, but I think I must need to try to unload them after I'm done with this baby before starting another (if there is another.)Sunday after church with Abigail. People still keep telling me I'm not very big. I keep telling them that my babies are all normal sized or large and that I'm 200 pounds. My babies are dense or something. Maybe Abigail will fill in our weight spot of 6 #'s or 10 #'s because we already have a kid in the 7, 8, and 9 pound range. We'll see. Any guesses? It is so nice to be able to go to meetings and hear the lessons given. The kids have been behaving better for the past two weeks in Sacrament meeting too, which is nice. I really don't miss nursery. It's nice to drop Vincent off and have a little break from him. He's like a tornado. I even managed to get him to nap today easily, which is awesome since Andy's in Virginia again. Yea, you read that right. Virginia. Again. He called me about 11am on Friday and said that he was going to fly out Friday night to go there to fix a problem they were having. He called me at 5am Saturday to tell me that he got there. He gets home Monday night so that's three nights without him here to help me with the kids. We are doing well so far though. We had an appointment at the Temple and a babysitter all lined up for Friday night so we could go on a date, so that didn't happen, but I did go to the Temple and to the grocery store for a few things alone and it was very nice!
Since the new year began I've been gung-ho on scrapbooking each night. I had to finish July of 2008 and now I'm up to January of 2009. I just finished December 2008 last night. I love being just two years behind. It's quite a relief. I am also appreciating my blog because I've keep the story in my head by typing it out and rereading it and when I want to remember a story, I can check my blog for details, for example: How would I have remembered this little detail about the nativity scene from two years ago without my blog? Elizabeth was making the Joseph and Mary puppets kiss during the nativity scene. If I didn't look at my blog it would have been a boring, "Elizabeth was the Joseph and Mary puppets."
Here is how I set up my little scrapbooking station. I can get through about a month each night I scrapbook (about 4 hours or so.) The chair to the left of my chair has my stickers and borders in binders and the chair to the right has my pictures to scrapbook with any papers, invitations, or tickets with them. I have bags of paper on the table and an accordian file with paper. I bought a new paper cutter this week, so that one's put away now. The TV is to my left (you can't see it, but it's above the Wii.) so I can watch/listen to movies. Just to the right of the scrapbook is my calendar that was on the wall where I wrote everything down and I use it constantly as a reference even though all of my pictures are organized by date and number of picture on the computer which is how Winkflash prints them with the name of the file on the back! It's awesome because then I just have to sort them out to make sure they are all where they belong and put them into envelopes by month.Because I didn't show what I made at our little craft getaway in November because some of the things I made were Christmas gifts, I'll show you now. I made "love". Yes, I know that's a funny way to say that last sentence. Read it again. At the crafty weekend, one of my friends asked another what she made there and she said "Oh, I just made love." It was funny. I am keeping this one for me.
I also made three sets of these family letters (which are on the Ransom-made.com website in colors Shirley picks or you can buy the letters alone and make them yourself or ask Shirley to custom make your set with certain colors.) I am keeping this set and gave one set to my brother and sister in law and one set to my parents. A friend of mine had her M tilted up like this and I thought it was great, so I copied her. Families are all a little crazy sometimes and hard to get in line, so it fits.
Vincent in the car (Andy was driving) pretending his slinky is the trunk of an elephant. We just have 16 days until Abigail is born. Andy's Aunt Nancy makes these cute little countdowns. We like to use ours.
My parents stopped by yesterday to bring me this dresser they aren't using now for Abigail. I'm going to clean it up, paint it, and maybe use some wallpaper borders on the drawers and mod podge them or something and get new handles. We'll see if I can do all that before Abigail gets here. It's a little beat up with stickers and stuff because it was always in the boy rooms and with six kids, things get a little beat up. Anyone want to fix it for me? I just want it to be girly and not ugly. You could even call it a baby gift if you want. =) Seriously though, if you want to give me a gift, give me a restaurant gift card or the cheap kind of diapers at Winco or WalMart or Target or just take my older kids for a few hours. We don't need ANY clothes or blankets or wash clothes or bibs or hats or well any baby things. We have quite a supply with two girls in our house already. Not that I'll refuse presents, of course. I love things which is why I have so much stuff here.
Time for me to go and take a rest before dinner at Andy's parent's house and getting the kids to bed tonight so I can tackle scrapbooking 2009. I only have pictures through December 2009 printed, so I just need 12 more nights to catch up to a year behind and I have 16 nights until she's born.
Sorry for the super long post. I ramble on here. I make up for my short Christmas postcard by making an even longer "letter" on here at least once a week.
